SONNET

Here then at home, by no more storms distrest,
Folding laborious hands we sit, wings furled;
Here in close perfume lies the rose-leaf curled.
Here the sun stands and knows not east nor west,
Here no tide runs; we have come last and best,
From the wide zone in dizzying circles hurled
To that still centre where the spinning world
Sleeps on its axis, to the heart of rest.

Lay on thy whips, O Love, that me upright,
Poised on the perilous point, in no lax bed
May sleep, as tension at the verberent core
Of music sleeps; for, if thou spare to smite,
Staggering, we stoop, stooping, fall dumb and dead,
And, dying so, sleep our sweet sleep no more.
DOROTHY L. SAYERS, Gaudy Night

'She went to bed thinking more about another person than about herself. This goes to prove that even minor poetry may have its practical uses.'
ibid.

Without further ado, here is the beautiful Mondzeichen, a superb, stunning and sparkling character of =skies-will-fall's. (Check out her art immediately if you haven't already - I especially love this piece.)
I made this after Skies responded to my requests journal. I'll hopefully be making a few more images inspired by the responses. If anyone else would like to see me make something, head over there and let me know.

The inspiration for this mainly came from the character - as soon as I saw her, I had this kind of idea in my head. It took me a while to get some stock together (is my background blending too atrocious?) but I'm super happy with the result. It's my first proper attempt at unnatural markings/colours as well, so any critique is most certainly welcomed!

The sonnet that I've placed in this description is from Gaudy Night, a novel in Dorothy L. Sayers' Lord Peter Wimsey series. I was reading the novel in between making the piece, and I adored the little sonnet that Harriet Vane and her lover Lord Peter penned together, although they were apart. (Sorry about the spacing, it won't show up on dA. cx) If you're into crime fiction I heartily recommend Lord Peter's adventures.

As always, thanks for viewing my artwork and I do apologise for the outrageous number of links I've put here. ♥
